How do I make Outlook open with a Reading Pane? - Recently stopped

Until recently Outlook always opened with a Reading Pane, now I have to go
into View each time to set the Reading Pane, but then it doesn't stay on for
next use.

What version of Outlook? Does outlook crash? That will often remove the
reading pane.
