I've created a piece that was then saved as a pdf and sent to the printers.
The black text reads as a 4 color black, and they would like it single color
black. Is there any way to accomplish this in Word 2003?

Can you set your .pdf settings for black and white?

In Word 2003, with the Acrobat 7 plug-in, select "press quality" for the
conversion setting. To avoid other problems set the fonts to be embedded.
