1. Open windows explorer
2. Find the type of file you want to open in FrontPage (like .htm and .html
files)
3. Right click on the file and choose Properties
4. The Opens with: will now say
5. Right next to Open with and the program name is a button: Change - click
this Change button
6. Choose FrontPage as the program
7. Repeat for other file types

There are a couple of ways to do it:

In FrontPage, go to Tools > Options.
Under the General tab, check 'Check if FrontPage is the default editor for
pages'.

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options.
Under the Programs tab, select Microsoft (Office) FrontPage in the pull-down
menu next to HTML editor.

I think Isagold is saying that Dreamweaver keeps hijacking the settings.

I uninstalled DreamWeaver but I suspect that you will need to find a
setting in the Dreamweaver options to tell it to stop checking to see if
it's the default editor for html pages, etc.

Uninstalling DW, followed by the steps outlined in Explorer, should do the
trick.

*I* uninstalled DreamWeaver because i didn't want to use it. However, I
don't think the original poster wants to uninstall DW -- just to stop DW
from hijacking the "default editor" assignments.

In many MS programs, like FP and IE, you do this by unchecking an option
which says "Check to make sure {app name} is the default {app
function}".

DreamWeaver should have such an option somewhere...

It doesn't. You are presented with those file types on installation. From
that point, you can change them by using the FILE | Open With method (in
Explorer).

Odd. When I did have DW installed, I think it did take over the default
extensions but the next time I ran FP it converted them back and DW
thereafter left them alone...
