I attend college online and I frequently listen to lectures and take notes in
1 note..during playback..all I hear is me typing. Can I capture online
content and hear audible playback in 1Note?

You would need a directional microphone, your laptop mike isn't designed
for the use you envision.

I have an external mic...but and I plugged into my computer...would this be
considered a directional mic? If so, it didn't work. Does the directional
mic need to be completely detached from my computer as the computer is
providing the audio?

Oh sorry, BIG apology, I missed the issue with you not having a real
person lecturing. Can you save the speech file that you are playing. As
to "re-recording" what is currently being played, you will need to have
a soundcard that is capable of duplex, "record and play" at the same
time, and software driver for it that supports "record what I hear".
