I'm having to guess here because you've left out some (probably important)
information, but it sounds as if you're uploading something to some kind of online
courseware or content management system.
If it's the PPT file, then the link to the Word file won't work (you'd have to
upload the word file as well, and since you say you're allowed only one
attachment, that sounds like a non-starter).
However, if you EMBED the Word file in your PPT, it may work (unless the PPT is
converted to some other format like HTML by whatever system you're uploading to).
Do Insert, Object, click Create From File and browse to your Word file. Don't
checkmark "Link".
