You're describing two different things. The AutoSuggest list that pops up
when you're typing isn't connected to your address book - rather that's a
separate file (.NK2) that contains only e-mail addresses you've used
recently.
If you type in a name and then tab to the next field (or press ALT+K to
force resolution) it should resolve against your address book and pull the
e-mail address in (assuming that name/address exist in your address book)
