Have just formatted my hard drive and installed Windows XP. Result is XP 5.1
Build 2600.xpsp1.020828-1920: SP1. If I check whether updates are needed
using the MS XP update site, it tells me I need Winddows XP SP2. I
downloaded it and attempted to install, but it stops with the message "No
products affected by this pack are installed on this system".

Surely SP2 is needed. What am I doing wrong?

If thats the case,try a diffrent SP2 installation,get that at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Also,you should be able to still order the free XP SP2 cd from
microsoft...Or save
this download to a cd.
