How Do I Install a Monitor Driver?

My Windows XP Pro computer is set to use DEFAULT monitor. I don't see
how I add the driver for my Princeton Ultra 50e monitor. This was
easy to do in Windows 98, but I can't see how to do it in Windows XP.

Thanks, Joe

Go to the manufacturer's website. Download the device driver. You may
have to unzip it into a directory or it will do this by itseld when ran.
Go to that directory, right click the .inf file and choose install.

Another way is to go to the Device Manager, select monitors. Right click
on your DEFAULT monitor, choose properties. Select the driver tab and hit
the Update driver button. Choose the option to install from a list and
select the proper monitor.

Do it from device manager:

Press your windows key + pause, then click on the hardware tab, click
on device manager. Expand the device tree. Click the + sign next
to monitor. Right click "Default Monitor". Click on properties.
Now click on the driver tab. Click on the update driver button and
follow directions.

After installing the driver, you may have to reboot in order for XP to
properly detect your Princeton. Once it's correctly identified and
the new drivers are working, you should be able to select all
available refresh rates. You may also have to re-adjust your screen
settings after doing so.

At Display - Settings, click Advanced, on the Monitor page click
Properties and on the Driver page Update Driver, pointing it to the .inf
file that goes with the monitor.

But I would not bother. All a monitor 'driver' does is provide a
description of the modes the monitor will handle. If you check the box
on that Monitor page 'Hide modes the monitor cannot handle' you can go
to the Adapter page, click 'List all modes, and choose the one you want.
It is then up to you to check the manual and make sure your selection
is within range. But when you apply, you will be given a chance to
confirm, and the system will revert in 15 seconds if you do not OK it.
So as long as you do not put in something so fast as to cause physical
damage, you can escape from a wrong choice
