I'm trying to defrag my C drive and whenI select <tools> <defragment> I get a
message that says defrag is not installed. How do I install it. I'm running
XP Pro.....thanks

What happens if you open My Computer and right click on the C
drive/properties/tools? Is there a defrag button there and, if so, does
it work?

What happens when you go to Start -> Run and enter dfrg.msc in the Open box?

How about Start -> Run and enter cmd /k defrag.exe C: ?

If that doesn't help, check this registry key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\DefragPath

You should see the following data listed in the right hand pane.

%systemroot%\system32\dfrg.msc %c:

To reinstall the disk defragmenter, follow the instructions listed under
Method 2 on this web site.

Try following the KB resolution for this problem:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922379
Be aware that defrag is not listed in Add or Remove Programs.
Open C:\Windows\inf, locate dfrg.inf and right-click it, then click Install.
