I am trying to insert a PowerPoint presentation and PDF files into a webpage
using FrontPage as the development software. It sees the link, however when
I click on it through explorer, it does not go anywhere.

Import the files into your web. Then link to them.

It seems its trying to open the PPT file in Powerpoint itself (this is the
default behaviour, or if powerpoint is not on the user system it will prompt to
download.

A way around this is to download the Powerpoint Viewer from microsoft.com - this
allows the ppt presentation to run over the web (similar to viewing pdf files in
acrobat reader) for those without the Powerpoint application.

The above applies if you don't first export the PPT presenation as HTML, then
import that html page into your frontpage web.

With pdf files, link to them as normal but users need the reader or viewer to see
them.

I'm using Article 823430 to try and import powerpoint slides into my web
page. I'm stuck on step 8 where it says "in the import dialog box, click Add
Folder". I don't get an "Add Folder" option. Help!

The easiest method are:

Drag-n-drop the PPT file into your current open web/site, requires user to have PP.

Drag-n-drop the Index.htm and generated folder into your current open web/site (html pages).

Fahren,

You will have an "Import" dialog box if you have a website open. There will
be 3 buttons on your right side: Add File, Add Folder & From Site.

If you only have a web page open, you will see a "Import Web Site Wizard -
Welcome" dialog box with 5 radio buttons: Front Page Server Extensions,
WebDAV, FTP, File System, & HTTP.

You can see the difference (web page vs. site) by looking at the title bar
at the top of the FrontPage window. If you see something to the effect of
"Microsoft FrontPage - C:\My Documents\My Webs"
then you have a website open (and step #8 will be accurate). If it says
something to the effect of
"Microsoft FrontPage - new_page_1.htm"
then you have a single page open for editing (for step #8 choose File System
and browse to the folder in which the PPT presentation resides).

For more information on creating a web site, please enter "website" in
online help and/or review the information at the below hyperlink:
