I am trying to hide the "Show hidden files and folders" option in the folder
options view tab.

I have a computer set up with "Do not show hidden files and folders" and
need to stop users changing it to "Show hidden files and folders".

I am running windows xp SP2.

IIRC there is a registry option that removes this from Explorer. HST, if
users have Admin rights they can put the option back anyway.. and failing
that they can use DOS or another GUI filemanager.

The only way to lock down the computer is to make the ordinary users
non-admin. Which requires Pro, of course.

IIRC ? HST ?

How do you change the registry option ?

All of our users have admin rights but i do believe they would not know or
try to change the registry to get this option back.

It is currently an easy change from "do not show" to "show", i am just
trying to eliminate the easy change between the two.

We are running Windows XP Pro.

Delete this key :
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL]

Note: the users can still enable hidden options by setting-
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\ -- Hidden
to 1

Good Luck, Ayush.

Is there not an option that i can change the value on rather than deleteing a
section out of the registry.

I would like to be able to show hidden file when i require, a simple value
change in the registry would be ok.

First, hide the hidden files using FOlder options then in this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL
Right side, set CheckedValue to 2.

Good Luck, Ayush.
