do harddrives spin down in winXP standby?

I should know this by now, but do harddrives spin down when one goes
into winXP standby?


In my defense, I got confused in win98SE, when I thought they were
supposed to spin down if I went past the time limit set in the Power
part of the control panel (which isn't standby in the first place),
and yet they never seemed to. I don't care about that anymore, just my
question up top.

They should, but it may vary depending on your hardware configuration.

Depends on how you have configured XP, you have separate control over that.

Yes, that is separately specified in that version of Win and later.

That can happen with hardware that the OS cant control on that.

You can configure XP to do it either way.

Well, I just left everything at the defaults.
