I think I need some codecs but not sure which ones. How can I get Windows
XP's Media Player 10 to show me subtitles from separate files?

You can use Media Player Classic for this functionality.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/

thanx!

I found some codecs in a Nimo pack and now my MP 10 shows subtitles!!!!
However, I still can't get my 5.1 sound system to play a 5.1 channel AVI or
a DVD for that matter. It keeps playing in stereo, and the back 2 speakers
play the same as the front two. I tried with Emersys3Dsound-- a test program,
which supposedly should demo surround sound, but it only uses the front
speakers.
I have a C-Media 5.1 sound card, and downloaded all of their offered
drivers, and still can't play a 5.1 avi properly. (I can change however the
volume for any of the 5 speakers and subwoofer separately)
I also downloaded several codecs, but gave up trying to find one which plays
5.1 sound avi.
How do I resolve this problem?

If you have been installing codec packs then you may have messed up too
much...

otherwise these two filters for AVIs should have been enough:
ffdshow http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow
ac3filter http://sourceforge.net/projects/ac3filter/

for dvd install demo version of windvd http://www.intervideo.com/

cool!
I uninstalled all my codecs and installed these two, and did some config and
now works with real 5.1. Very nice!
Thanks!
