I put the search function on a page, it's visible in design view, but not
visible when previewed in a browser. What's the secret???

You have to make sure that you are using the search function when running
against a web server. If you're just opening the file in your browser
through the file system and not through a web server the search features
won't work because search requires a web server.

....and, the FP server extensions must be installed.

You have to view it in a browser on the web. It uses the server extensions.
Or if you use Windows XP Pro, publish it to your http://localhost
on your PC.
