How do I get rid of Vongo?

I've never installed Verizon's movie downloading service Vongo, at least not
intentionally, because I've never had a need for it.

But take a look at this composite image.

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...r/unwanted.gif

I noticed that when I start my WinXP laptop, the box on the left appears and
seems to keep resetting itself several times as if something's repeatedly
tryin' to install Vongo.

I looked in Add/Remove Programs and Vongo was listed (size 30MB), so I tried
to uninstall it.

I got the box in the middle and a few seconds after I clicked OK, I got the
box on the right.

Same result when I clicked Change, Next, Remove, Next, it just happened a
little faster.

I used Start/Search/For Files And Folders to find and delete anything
"Vongo" from the C:/ drive and then emptied the recycle bin.

I checked Start/Run/msconfig and there's nothing in there at all that
appears to be related to Vongo, including the unchecked stuff.

I restarted my system and got the above mentioned box of the left again.

I again checked Start/Run/msconfig and there's nothing in there at all that
appears to be related to Vongo, including the unchecked stuff.

I used Start/Search/For Files And Folders to search for anything "Vongo" on
my entire system, not just the C:/ drive, including my 250G external hard
drive that I use for storage. No results at all.

I tried Add/Remove programs again, found that Vongo is still listed, tried
to remove it, got the same results as before.

Now that I have told you everything I know, my question is simple. How to I
get Vongo off of my system?

OK, I'll give that a try if nothing else works! Thanx!

How to Remove Vongo

Posted on another group, 12/27/07 6:23 PM

This might help some of you folks suffeeing this stupid infection. Yes, it
really is viral. This is the same type of behavior that you'd expect from a
virus, yet it's not classified as such. Why not? Anyhow, hope some of you see
this and it helps.

Uninstall VONGO Software:
1. Restart the Notebook and keep Tapping F8.
2. Select Safe Mode and press Enter
3. Click on Start, select Run, type "msconfig" press Enter.
4. Click on Startup tab and uncheck the check box besides "isuspm"
5. Click OK and restart the system for the new settings to take effect.

Note: After you restart the machine you may receive a dialog box stating
'System is running using Selective Startup', Check 'Don't show this message
or launch the system configuration utility when Windows Starts' and click OK.

Now, restart the Notebook again and go into Safe Mode by tapping F8.
Click on Start -> Control Panel -> Add Remove Programs.
Locate the Vongo Software and click on Remove to uninstall it. If this does
not resolve the issue, you may have to manually delete the files.

To do that:
1. Double click on My Computer
2. Double click on C Drive
3. Double click on Program Files
4. Select the Vongo Software folder and press Delete.
5. Close the Window
6. Right click on Recycle Bin folder and select Empty Recycle Bin This will
remove the Software.

Now, run the Windows Installation Cleanup Utility, this will remove the
registry entries for the Software. You can download the Utility from the
given below link:

http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...bd/msicuu2.exe

The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility does: " Provide a dialog box where you
can select one or more programs that were installed by Windows Installer. You
select the programs on the Installed Products list in the Windows Installer
CleanUp dialog box. After you make this selection, the utility removes only
the Windows Installer configuration information that is related to those
programs. " Remove the files and registry settings that make up the Windows
Installer configuration information for programs that you select.
