I've tried hitting Tools, Options, Security and clicked to get rid of mark-up
and THEN typed a few spaces in the document, deleted those and saved the
document. I open the document again and tada! Mark-up is still there. I
ahte this feature. Please... can somebody, somewhere suggest how to get rid
of this?

If you have turned Track Changes off and accepted all the changes and
deleted all the comments, then saved, there should be no more markup.
