How do I get IE 6 to open a hyperlinked doc with Word

I have a webpage with a list of hyperlinked Word and Excel files. When I
click on the hyperlink, the file opens in IE, but I want it to open in
Word(2003) or Excel(2003).

Is there a solution to this?
