Hi.

A friend gave me a Samsung ML-4500 B&W Laser printer, and I'm out of
ideas of how to get a driver.

Does anyone have it?

If not, my narrative further explains my problem. I'm sorry it is so
long.

Windows XP SP3 doesn't have it built-in.

www.samsung.com doesn't list it, though it has others that start
ML-4xxx.

Googling ML-4500 driver download leads to some sites, but the 2
or 3 I tried pointed to urls that don't exist anymore. like
samsung.electronics.co.uk . It is now part of www.samsung.com/uk or
some thing like that, and that page didn't have it either.

(I"m not counting the url that had E210wxpe.zip. That's a good file,
but not a sufficient one.**)

Other hits were driver download sites which claimed to have a driver,
but when I dl'd, what I got was DrPrinter (some sort of software for
debugging printers) from
http://www.nodevice.com/driver/download.html

and Driver Updater Pro from
http://www.driverskit.com/freedownlo...500/12999.html
(which is supposed to look for new drivers in an efficient way. But
that's not what their page says. It says I'm going to download the
driver for the ML-4500 printer.

Are these spyware sites or something, that they try to give me
software that isn't what they say they'll be giving?

I haven't downloaded drivers for two or three years, but didn't they
used to have the drivers right on the drivers.com webpage for example.
Now the only one of the pages that tried to give me the driver just
pointed me to a Samsung site.

And it was worse a month ago, I needed a newer driver for a video card
(so I could use Standby) and I went to 3 or 4 driver download pages,
and every one of them pointed me back to the manufacturer's web site,
which didn't have it, which is why I was looking at independent driver
dl sites. (ATI-RAGE)

**E210wxpe.zip is a strange driver for another brand that is to be
installed after the ML-4500 driver and which solves a problem with
Windows XP attempting to reinstall the printer every time Windows
starts.

Thanks for any help you can give.

BTW, I read somewhere that the most recent driver was June 19, 2005,
fwiw.

http://www.nodevice.com/driver/ML-4500/get42263.html

Scroll down to the right hand side of the page and input characters as
asked.
This will take you to a second page. Click on download and wait 30 seconds
as asked. The file will then be available for download.
I tried it and it appears to work.

Thank you so much. I went to Samsung's UK site and I thought I put
the model number in the field and got the same list of printers I did
in the US site. Today that worked but yesterday it switched or I
switched it back to the US site when I wasn't looking.

And thank you, Jan, also.

I guess I will have to look harder next time.

I had one of these years ago, I don't have the driver but do have traces
of the folder left: it looks like I downloaded a driver for an ML5100A -
I think (deep in my memory) that worked OK with the 4500 and Windows XP
(the supplied 4500 drivers were Win 95 when it was new).

Try searching for that - no harm in trying it and you can always remove
or roll back if doesn't work.

Thanks. You probably wont' believe that I'm still using a Canon
BJ-200. One of the rubber wheels broke but I bought a bag of 10 or 20
for 79 cents at home depot. I have a BJC-2000 for color but it's
about a year from one color print to another and it may have dried up.
Not always. When I get the new computer assembled, pretty soon now, I
guess I will clear my desk and start over with the laser printer.
