I am updating someone else's word document. I have turned of the Markup and
selected Final and saved the document. When I open the document, the
document opens in Final showing markup and the Markup is back on.

I deleted all of the original custom properties of the document and accepted
all previous tracked changes.

You need to post to the Word newsgroup

you might try the MS Word newsgroup.....
