I don't know what's wrong with my Movie Maker, but it won't bring .avi files
into it no matter how much i try. It says i'm missing some file, but what
file? Can anyone help me?

You need to have the appropriate codec with which the file was compressed
installed on the PC already.

It's probably DIVX or XVID. Do the files play correctly in Windows Media
Player before you try to import them?

I have an ARCHOS (www.archos.com) AV4100 and record from TV. This creates
a .AVI file. I have copoied these to my PC running Windows XP Home edition
and SP2 with Windows Media Player 10 and Windows Movie Maker 2.1 With media
player it only playes the audio with visualisation, you can see it trying to
connect to get a codec but some error flashes too fast to see it. In Move
Maker, when importing the video its prompts for auro download option to be
set in Tools/Options., i do this and it tries to get codec but complains
with error:-

The file G:\coupling.AVI cannot be imported because the codec required to
play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to
download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and
then try to import the file again.

I do not know what codec is required. I have exited application and gone
back in again.

Its also doesn't play in Real Player. This did tell me why though - no DIVx
codec plug in. Now why couldn't MS tell me that !!

Thanks
