most messages I need to open the edit box the select edit message, before
being able to edit. Can I get automatic edit enabled? what is the difference
when creating emails- does the Sender have some initial protection from
editing activated??

I don't believe so.

The sender has no control over it, either. Mail items are entries the the
database that is your message store and that database is configured to allow
editing of incoming messages only when you specifically select it. In other
words, that's just the way Outlook was designed.
