When I start up a excel file directly, excel starts, but not the file.
I could start up the file only when excel is already executed and go t
file>open>and location of file. Is there a fix to this issue

Try the usual fix(es) for this problem.

Tools>Options>General uncheck "Ignore other Applications"
Exit Excel and try again

If this doesn't work try to re-register Excel

Close Excel first and On the Windows Taskbar

1) Start>Run "excel.exe /unregserver"(no quotes)>OK.
2) Start>Run "excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)>OK.
See the space between exe and /regserver

You might have to designate a full path to excel.exe.
In that case Start>Run "C:\yourpath\excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)>OK.

Hi D,

If you store the file in the xlSTART folder or the alternate startup folder,
it will be opened each time that Excel is opened.

To define the alternate startup location:

Tools | Options | Alternate startup file location.

Hi D,

Please ignore my response.

I mis-read your question.
