When I close Outlook it asks me if I want to save backup copies. When I click
on "Save Backup" I get an error message that says, "Error copying file or
Folder" & "Cannot copy Outlook2: the process can not access the file because
another process has locked a portion of the file." So what do I need to do to
save a backup copy?

Make sure the outlook.exe process actually quits before making the backup.

And also ensure you dont have a DTS (desktop search) app accessing the pst

I did get a message from Norton asking if it would like me to use it to
integragete with Outlook. So how can I be sure that part of it closed also? I
just click on the X to close Outlook and then the Backup screen appears. Is
there more that I have to do than that?

If I could jump in here, probably too late to do much good, but I was
having the same problem, i.e. unable to backup my Outlook data file
(PST file) because some program was apparently accessing the file. The
error message I was getting after selecting File/Backup in Outlook,
and then closing Outlook was "Unable to copy Outlook - the process
cannot access the file" and as above. In my case the culprit was a
desktop search program Copernic. Shutting down Copernic and then going
through the backup steps within Outlook resulted in a good backup.
Hope this helps.
