How do I export all?

Hi there, I want to "save" the entire contents of my mailbox - contacts,
inbox, outbox - the whole nine yards. I'm changing computers, and don't want
to lose all of this information. I might not necessarily need it... but it
would make me feel better knowing I could access it if I needed to.

I've tried to play around with the export function (in the File menu) but I
don't seem to be having much luck. Is there an easy way to do this? I thought
about maybe looking for the data files and copying those... but I'm a little
over my head.

Thank you!
RHW

I'm definately no expert but I do know that these are in the form of .pst
files. You have to have you hidden folders show up to be able to click
through the right path to get to them. You cut save the .pst files (you
should check to see if you've "archivesave" has just been done - it's a part
of your options in Outlook - to make sure you've got your latest of all your
groups saved.) If I remember correctly, the path is C:\Documents and
Setting\your name or identity or whatever\Local Setting\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook. I just had to do this within the last week is why I
know this! lol Oh, you just place those in the new directory of the same
path on your new computer.

Just to be fair to you, I'd have somebody else confirm what I just said to
be safe. I THINK I'm right but I'm just a moderately learned user.

What version of Outlook? And are you connected to an Exchange server?

If you're using 2002 or higher your information is located in a .PST file.
If you search your drive for outlook.pst (make sure you're including hidden
and system directories in the search) you'll probably find it and that's all
you'll need. If you're connected to an Exchange server (such as at your
office) then your mail may not even be on your PC. Consult your
administrator if you're using Exchange.

Otherwise to use the Export utility:

- Click on File -> Import and Export
- Select "Export to a file" and click Next
- Select "Personal Folder File (.pst)" and click Next.
- Select the root of your folder, typically called "Personal Folders" at the
top of the list.
- Check the "Include subfolders" box and click Next.
- Enter a path to save the .PST file and click Finish.
- You can type a name for the personal folders or just leave it at "Personal
Folders" and then click OK.

Outlook will now export your data to the PST file you specified.

Go to file>import/export>export to a file>Personel folder file(.pst)>select
the mailbox folder and check the include subfolders>next>browse to where you
want to export the .pst to. you can change the name of it instead of
backup.pst to whatever.
Copy .pst over to the new computer. Open Outlook and again go to
file>import/export>import from another program or file>personel folder file
(.pst)>browse to where you copied your .pst to>next

ALL advice given on this group says to NOT use the export function when
transferring data from one Outlook unstance to another. All that is required
is to copy and paste the pst file.
