How to do duplex printing?

I've got a Canon IP Pixma 4700 and I can't get it to do duplex printing. I open both documents that I want printed on each side of one sheet of paper, check duplex printing in properties but only one document shows in the preview and only that document is printed on one side. What am I doing wrong?

I've looked at lots of videos online and they show how to set page set up but not how to get the two documents into the set up.
