How do I do two F6 disks?

Hi All,

I am trying to install XP-Pro-SP3-OEM onto a new
computer. I need two F6 disks: Intel ICH9R and
Adaptec 2405. If I ignore the ICH9R disk, I get
a BSOD. (As a work around, I can turn AHCI off
in BIOS and install it later.)

After I "S" the 2405 drivers, I tried changing
the floppy to the ICH9R disk, but XP's installer
does not recognize that I changed the disk. Still
thinks I have the 2405 disk in the drive.

And the two drivers will not fit on the
same disk.

Is there a way to do two F6 disks?

Many thanks,
-T

Been a while since I had to this, but doesn't it prompt at the bottom of the
screen for more/another driver? I was thinking that after the first driver
is installed/copied from the disk, it comes back to the first screen and
says something like "Press XXX to install more drivers."

you might have to download
updated mother board drivers
from its homesite or maybe
update the bios before installation.

double check your mobo's
homesite for faq's.

I am not seeing it. Maybe I am blind. I only see "S" for
additional drivers and "enter" to return to the installation.
(And F3 to cancel installation.)

Do you remember what the key is so I can swap disks and
add another driver?

You add one, then add another, then add another... repeat.

Maybe I am going blind, but that link describes my problem
perfectly, but I can not find anyone answering him. How do
I get the second floppy to register? XP installer thinks,
I still have the first floppy installed.

After installing the first driver, and the screen returns to the "Press 'S'
for additional drivers," take the first floppy out, put the second floppy
in, and press S. DO NOT PRESS ENTER. If the install still thinks the first
floppy is in the drive, try taking all floppies out and press S. Then when
prompted to put in a floppy, put in the second one.

Hi Tom,

I tried every variation of this I could think of. Once the
first floppy is cached, XP Installer will not read a second disk.

All is not lost though. I have had something similar to
this before. I will install XP with the PIIX driver then
force the ICH9R AHCI driver after XP is up.

It would be nice if both the XP Installer and XP itself
would ignore the ICH9R AHCI hardware until I can
install it, but both BSOD on me without the driver.

Nice thing about this install is that my C: drive resides
on the 2405 RAID controller, so I can be a bit sloppy if
I have to.

Thank you for the help,
-T

Sorry it's happening to you that way; I can't recall ever having that sort
of problem.
Thankfully, you've managed a work-around, and that is the most important
thing.
