*If* your CD/DVD burner has that option then *if* the application supports
turning it on/off, it will be in that application. (i.e. - Nero, Roxio,
etc..)

I could be wrong here, but I don't believe Windows XP has an option to
"enable" it natively.

It sounds like you want to prevent buffer underrun errors. I used to get
them also
until I started using a writing program called Nero.

I've used Nero a long time and agree it is the best.

Curiously, the buffer underrun protection box is checked but the
option is greyed out. I always wondered why that is.

I have some greyed out boxes in Nero also. One of these days I suppose
I'll break down
and read the docs. On the other hand, one reason I think Nero became so
popular is that just about anybody could install it and write their
first cd perfectly without reading a thing

Your CD burner must support some type of buffer under-run in order for the
option to be available. Check with the software maker to see if they have
CD drive definition updates.
