Hello all

I'm attempting to disable the System Restore in XP, but am unable to go to Control Panel - I keep getting "Windows Explorere has encountered a problem and needs to close, blah blah blah

I've searched the Knowledge Base, and found how to disable it through the control panel (which I can't get to), and how to start system restore from a command prompt, but can't seem to find anything on how to disable thru command prompt

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks!!!

You can also go to Start > Run > services.msc
scroll down to system restore service, right-click on it, choose
properties and disable it.

Carey

Thank you for your time and assistance. I went to the site you suggested and followed the instructions, but my computer won't let me into either "Control Panel" or "My Computer"...... evidently some spyware or adware has allowed a trojan horse to keep me from accessing either icon on my Start panel..

I did, however, received a suggestion from Roger (below) that seemed to work

Thanks again for your time - I do appreciate any and all help I can get! Have a good one

David
