I get nearly 30 popup windows an hour all from something
called "Messenger Service" and often wryly advertising a
device to stop popups. I have a couple of pop-up purger
devices yet no matter how often i add 'messenger service'
to their hit lists the damn popups continue. Anyone advise
me how to zap these irritants for good? I'm a writer and
having these bloody windows flying open all the time
really dilutes my concentration. (E-Mail Removed)

I had the same problem...have W2K. My solution was to go to:

http://www.intermute.com/messagesubtract/

and download the free program. I've have a firewall (ZoneAlarm 2.6) and it was
still letting the messages get thru. It does the same thing as some of the
other posters mention, i.e., disabling the messenger service on you PC. If
you're a little intimidated by doing it, this program does it for you.
