Hi all,
I'm working on my laptop and trying to find a way to dim the brightness
of the screen. When the laptop is unplugged and running on the battery,
it automatically dims so the hardware supports this. But I can't find a
way using the monitor control panel in windows xp to do this manually.

Does anyone know of a way to do this????

Or can anyone recommend a freeware/shareware program to do this on
XP?????

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi,

What kind of laptop do you have? Be specific!

What happens when you adjust the brightness controls (consult manual
for specific keys, if they're not clearly marked).

On my Gateway laptop the Function + F7 key dims the brightness while the
Function + F8 key raises the brightness.

On my Gateway, Fn + F8 toggles all the way up or all the way down. Fn +
Up/Dn arrow keys adjusts it gradually.

Look for the blue (or grey) characters on your keyboard. The special keys
(the graphics) will be the same color as the Fn button.
