xp starts, get to log in screen. If I wait 10 minutes
and then log on, all is OK. If I log on immediately then
the log on process starts, but pauses after a few
seconds. It appears that a service/process is hanging on
startup. The only consistent findings are:
1. ccapp.exe (NIS 2003 component) does not start
successfully.
2. viewing processes as they start up, the
services/processes that are starting at the time when the
startup finishes its pause are related to USB. The only
service that both of these rely on is RPC.
3. the computer is on a dialup connection and as such no
RPC should be needed?

Can anybody shed some light on this please? What tools
are there for pin pointing faulty services/processes, or
debugging the start up procedure to find the culprit? I
have been using bootvis and sysinternals tools - no
success...
