Currently Using Outlook 2003.
Have two POP3 email accounts (one on charter and one on bellsouth)
When I am home I use outlook and send receive works as expected.

Currently traveling and I know that I cannot send emails using outlook so I
do not have any emails in Drafts or Outbox. I use the Web based applications
to send while traveling.

When I launch Outlook to retrieve my incoming emails it never completes the
sending email process to bellsouth.net as if there is an email being sent.
All other processes complete normally. When I cancel this task and press
send/receive again all processes complete. Only on the initial launch of
Outlook does it fail.

I suspect that I have a virus that is attempting to use outlook. My
anti-virus and ad aware are current and running.

How do I determine what and by whom is being sent??

Have you turned on diagnostic logging? Tools->Options->Advanced.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. All
unsolicited mail sent to my personal account will be deleted without
reading.

After furious head scratching, DonW asked:

I have not, but I will as soon as I can. Is it diagnostic logging? There is
no advanced button under Tools->Options. Outlook help did not cover
diagnostic logging. Thanks for your response....

Milly thanks again.... I did find the logging you referenced previous and
enabled it. restarted outlook and saw the attempt to send again. The log
only indicates something was trying to be sent not what it is. log attached.
Since I have nothing in the outlook box and am not trying to send I do not
know how to determine what is being attempted here. Ideas??

This log indicates that you are not making a successful connection to the
SMTP server. You may be able to see if something is in your Outbox with
this:

Please refer to my original problem description...... I know i am not making
a connection to my server....that is why I was able to see the fact that
something is trying to be sent from my outlook. It is not the fact that I
can't connect it is the fact something is being sent and I want to know what,
by who, etc..

So visit the web site whose URL I included and use the tool there to look in
the Outbox for any hidden messages.

Thank you very much. Problem resolved. It was a hidden folder with a message.

Once again. Thanks. Sorry I didn't see the link in the previous post....
