every time I click on send/receive in my outlook 2003 it says it is sending 3
messages but there are no messages in my outbox. this has been going for some
time as the messages are never sent due server connection timeout. this
occurs using a Yahoo account which has been ok in the past. if cannot delete
messages how can I close the Yhoo send option but still retain the receive
function?

Do you get any error messages when this send is happening? The messages
being sent are probably read-receipts that don't show in your outbox.
