How do I delete a corrput Hotmail HTTP type folder from my Outlook

A while back, I added an HTTP type new email account for hotmail (which I no
longer use). I have since removed this and I'm trying to delete the old email
folder in my folder tree in Outlook 2003.

If I try to close it, I get a single pop-up window that says "The messaging
interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart
Outlook". I've restarted Outlook, rebooted and restarted, many times. Dead
end.

If I try to open it, I get the following message error: "The set of folders
could not be opened." and I get a "Show Help>>" button. When I click on this
button, I get the following message:
"This error usually appears if the OST or PST file you are using is:
- Unavailable
- Protected with file permissions
- On a share on a server and the network is down
- Corrupt
To correct this problem, store the OST or PST file on the local computer.
You may also want to run the scanost.exe and scanpst.exe tools to verify
file integrity.

I searched my computer for these files. I shut down outlook completely. When
running scanost.exe, I got the following error message: "Offline
synchronization is not supported for your mailbox."

Then, I decided to try the scanpst.exe to see if that would get me anywhere.
I did it on the main outlook.pst. It suggested that I repair some files.
That really messed up the way outlook works even more - at this time, I can
no longer properly send receive from accounts that have been working for
years. All of a sudden, all my server names for outgoing mail on all my
accounts (I have a few) are all no longer working. (Side note: do you realize
how absolutely irritating it is when you follow instructions given to you by
the software manufacturer to repair their software and the solution cases
many more issues?) I realised after that there should have probably been some
kind of hotmail specific PST file just like I have for my IMAP accounts, but
since I deleted this account, that file is also gone. So there is no file to
check. Dead end again.

In that initial "Show help>>" button, there was a last sentence to which was
attributed a hyperlink. It said: "More information about this error message
online.". When checking the properties of the hyperlink, it points to:
http://watson.microsoft.com/dw/error...ld=11.0.8161.0.
However, that link is redirected to the following link:
http://www.microsoft.com/products/ee...3&ProdVer=11.0

On which I hit my final dead end:

Its unclear whether this is an exchange invironment or not
In Control Panel>Mail Applet> Profile are the defunct data file accounts
listed? if so remove them

This is not an exchange environment. This is my home computer.

I followed the instructions you gave me, but like I suspected, because I
deleted the account, when I access the email accounts via the control panel,
it doesn't show up. Nor is there a data file.

Let me reiterate:

I removed the email account by using the add/remove email account in Outlook
That in turn removed the data file
However, the folder stayed in the outlook tree (where you find the inbox,
the personal folders, the archived folders and the imap folders) and returns
error messages if I happen to click on it.

Now if if this was just aesthetic, I'd get over it. But it's not. If I click
on this by error, my Outlook hangs for a while until the pop-up messages
listed in my original message appears.

My profile shows data files. I mentioned that in my initial email that I did
a scan on the main Outlook PST file.

Please, I understand that you are trying to help me, but please read what I
write and not ask me to repeat myself. I believe that I have elaborated my
issue with a great amount of detail, much more then you are used to finding
on these forums.

Let me reiterate once again the issue:

I have data files in Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. I
have an Outlook.pst, and Archive.pst as well as other .pst files that are
linked to IMAP accounts (I have a total of 5 email addresses, 2 POP and 3
IMAP).

I used to have 6 folders there, when I used to check my Hotmail account in
Outlook. I went through the Outlook interface to delete the Hotmail account.
Here are, once again, the results:

- Hotmail account successfully deleted from accounts list
- Hotmail associated PST (or was it OST, I can't remember) successfully
deleted from the Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
- Hotmail folder in the Outlook in the Outlook application MAIL lefthand
side bar tree, NOT successfully deleted and causing the errors that I
outlined in the original email.

Can you help me? Or can someone else take a crack at this?

I have read your reponses, but they are not allways clear, when I suggested
you check your Profile it was in relation to the data files shown & not any
accounts

Create a new Profile, not copy, add the approriate data files & accounts,
set it to prompt for profile
