How do I create a sheet of Avery file folder labels-sheet size 836

I know there are templates within even old versions of Word which interface
with many Avery label types (incl 8366, file folder labels) but I can't
locate where or how to create a sheet of these labels anywhere. Only "Mail
Merge" options are available and the interface for file folder labels limit
you to the same label throughout the entire sheet or to printing one single
label. Please include detailed directions -- I need all the help I can get.
PS I could not find answer on knowwledgebase, forum or in the product.

Thanks a million!
Sincerely,
Leslie

Not sure what your problem is here. If you use Tools > Letters and Mailings
> Envelopes and Labels you can select the label type (or create a new one)

from the Options button. The New Document button creates a 'sheet of labels'
which is actually just a Word table - you can enter what you like on that -
no compulsion to use Mail Merge. (Turn on table grid lines if you can't see
the label boundaries.)

There is a Microsoft article with the detailed steps at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/as...269731033.aspx

but note that the article incorrectly says you have to use Mail Merge to get
multiple sheets - actually all you have to do is add rows to the table to
fill another page or pages!

Adding rows won't work properly with some label definitions because they
include narrow separator rows, which aren't replicated when you add rows by
tabbing. You can, I believe, select two rows and use Insert Rows and get a
"label" row and a "separator" row, but in such cases mail merge may still be
more efficient.

Thanks Suzanne - I hadn't thought about separator rows so that does make the
article make more sense. As you know I'm not personally a great one for
accepting Word's automatic offerings so I'll always prefer to wade in and
work at the basic element level <g>.

Yep, I'm with you on that--at least I like to understand what Word is doing
when I let it do something "automatically."

Back to the original question. All my Avery templates have disappeared with
their handy reference number for the proper table sizing. Is the only way to
get templates back is to download one template at a time?

Are you saying that when you open the Labels dialogs and click Options,
there are no labels listed for "Avery standard"? It could be that this is
the result of saving a document or template as Normal.dot. Are you also
missing standard AutoText entries?
