BEFORE she gives up her Mac, she needs to open all her AppleWorks
documents and save them into more portable formats.
I believe AppleWorks will let her save her word processing documents as
RTF, or as Word 97-2002 format, which Word 2007 will handle fine. But
AppleWorks also creates drawing documents, databases, and spreadsheets,
which will each need to be saved into appropriate formats. I've heard
people say there is no program that will open an AppleWorks database,
but don't know how true that is.
Alternatively, DataViz is the conversion product that everyone recommends:

Check to see if they have a Windows product that will handle
AppleWorks--and check on *which type* of AW files it handles, since
there are at least 4 and maybe 6.
