Hello

I am not able to change the name of one of my new W2k servers that did not get updated to a name.domain.com computer name like all my other w2k servers after I had upgraded an NT4 PDC to W2k. I was able to transfer all the fsmo's to this box and get gc on. All my dc's are ad integrated. Now I am having replication issues and they all point to the dns name of this master dc box. I can't change the name in the [my computer, properties, network identification] because the button is grayed out. Is there any other way to do this? I think I have to transfer all the master operations to another server, then demote the server in question using dcpromo, then change the name, then promote, then transfer all the fsmo's again. Is this correct? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Ray

Is it only the computer name that has the single-label domain name?
This is fixable without DCPROMO if the domain name as seen in AD Users &
Computers is a multi-labeled name. A script is available that will correct
the Primary DNS suffix to match the DNS domain name, the script template is
available from this KB article:
257623 Domain Controller's Domain Name System Suffix Does Not Match Domain
Name
