I prefer to have a 1280x1024 resolution on my computer.
However, this makes Windows' default font very hard to
read. I tried fixing this in the Control Panel Display
Appearance box, but the only thing that I could change
there was the title bar and icon text size. I even
checked out the advanced menu, but I coudn't change it
there either. I like sharper pictures, but my dad
coudn't read such small print to save his life. Is there
any way to change this property?

The only way to change this, globally, is to use the
Display/Settings/Advanced button/General tab. Under DPI Settings, use the
drop down menu to select Custom and make the changes there.
