Hello,

I want my laptop to boot at a certain time and perform certain tasks
at that time. How do I do this? Can I get it to automatically login
to a specific profile? I was told that in order to do this, I would
have to change the BIOS. I don't konw what the BIOS is, or how to
access it, if anyone could assist me I would be very grateful.

Thank you,

- Minha

The BIOS will only let you wake up the laptop at a certain time.

You Scheduled Tasks instead, as it is much more flexible, and you can set
what you want done there as well. You can wake up the computer using
Scheduled Tasks. I never realised this after years of using NT.

The BIOS (=Basic Input/Output System) is a chip in your laptop
that controls the very basic things at boot time such as the screen
input/output or the keyboard. It has nothing to do with Windows.

To get into the BIOS you need to press a certain key at boot
time. It is often the Delete key. If you don't know, check the
manual that came with your laptop.

Many BIOSs have a facility to start the computer automatically
at a certain time. See if you can find this facility while in your
BIOS, or check your laptop manual.

To log on to Windows automatically as a certain user, do this:
- Click Start / Run / control userpasswords2{OK}.
- Click the user you wish to log on as.
- Untick the box that requires users to enter a password.
- Click OK and enter the password when prompted.

There are several ways to run a task automatically at logon
time. One way is to place a shortcut to your chosen application
into c:\documents and settings\xxxx\Start Menu\Programs\Startup..
