I want to capture one of the streaming audio feeds available at
<http://www.cbc.ca/listen/>. I'm running Win2K - what software do I
need?

(Also, how do I figure out what format those streams are in?)

If you right-click on the player while listening to a station and select
properties, you can find alot of information:

http://origin.www.cbc.ca/mrl2/livemedia

cbcr1-toronto.asx

<ASX VERSION="3.0">
<ENTRY>
<REF HREF="mms://wm05.nm.cbc.ca/cbcr1-toronto" />
</ENTRY>
</ASX>

Find out why CBC.ca uses Windows Media Player.

I used to have a prog. called Total Recorder. It records whatever sounds
your soundcard is making. Very useful freeware. Must get round to
finding it again.

SDP will download Windows media player streams
http://sdp.ppona.com/

Doesn't currently support real audio, but I think there
was a recent thread in this NG about downloaders that
support real.

Url Snooper, a program written to help users locate the urls of audio and
video files so that they can be recorded.

ANY info on how this thing is supposed to work? I could find no info file,
no help file, on ERROR in attempting to record. Pushed every button,
tried every available option from the "source", "recording" and other
pull-down.
Still no go! What am I missing? TIA.

Helen

Set the Record Source to Stereo Mix, hit the Record button on Manual
recording then start the streaming sound source. Hit the Stop button
when finished, then to hear what you just recorded hit the Play button
in Last recording. The item you just recorded can be found in Windows
Explorer where you installed the program to under Recordings. I don't
use the timer so I can't help you there.
