When do bytes actually get sent with an HttpListenerResponse?

When an HttpListener is responding to a request, when do bytes actually start
being sent? Does the HTTP header get sent when the output stream starts
being written to? Does it wait until the output stream is closed to start
sending both the header and body? What if just the header is being returned?
