When I bcc 10 of my friends, I thought that each of them would receive the
email as from me and "to" them. It turns out that although the bcc works
(they don't see the other names on the bcc line), the email actually shows as
to ME. Is there a way for it to show as "to" THEM?

Perform a mail merge instead. Check help, it should have pretty good steps
for you.

And the only reason it should show as To you is if you put your address on
the To line or their email client looks at a blank To line and decides to
put the From field in its place.
