I'm trying to create a numbered list that runs across different text boxes
across different slides. I would like the numbers to all be inter-connected
so that if I move slides around, they will automatically adjust. Is this
possible? If so, how?

I'm afraid this is not possible in PowerPoint. The numbering will restart at
1 in every new slide. Only thing you can do is to reset the starting number,
select the placeholder and go to Format - bullets and Numbering - next to
begin with adjust the number. But that won't help if you move the slide
around.
Maybe someone with VBA knowledge can do better, I hope.
