How do attachments fill PST file?

Office 2007

If I understand correctly, Outlook stores email attachments in the PST file. I receive numerous good size email attachments. It would seem that this would swell up the PST file rather quickly. In Eudora, the attachments are placed as individual files in a directory.

Does Outlook compress the attachments in the PST file?
Is there a way to see what attachment files are in the PST file?
Is there a size limit to the PST so it won't accept more attachments?
