Hi! :-)

How do I get a particular directory's view setting to subfolders without
having to go through and set 'em all one by one? I prefur to keep 'em *all*
set to list/by name with the recycle bin being the only exception

Thanx in advance :-)

On the View tab under Tools > Folder Options does the Apply to All Folders
button do what you want? It does apply the current settings to all folders
on the computer and not just those beneath your current location.

Here's the canned description of my script with a link:

---
I've written a script that will apply all the view customizations you can
set to all of a folder's
subfolders. Right-click the link below & save to your computer. The zip
file contains a readme
file & the script itself.

http://mysite.verizon.net/res18hr7/FVM3.zip

You can select a folder & configure its view settings, then those are set to
be inherited by all
subfolders (you have the option of saving or wiping out current saved views)
.. You can set a
default for My Pics, another for My Music, and then a more generic default
for My Computer. The
inheritance settings are separate from the folder view itself -- for
example, you can set a
non-grouped view to be the default inheritance for My Computer, then return
My Computer to its
standard 'group by type' layout after running the script without affecting
the default view you have
set.

I tried to set-up all my subfolder directories with the same layout in Vista,
3 different ways, including selecting: Tools, Folder Options, View. The
"details" view part or general layout worked, but the width and location of
the fields didn't work. Either there's another way, or this feature doesn't
work, although it worked properly in XP and ME.

TO OP:
there are 2 option in Vista Explorer that may make a difference.
right click on the header in the right pane of explorer where NAME, DATE, etc is and look at the top 2 options for column width.

too bad one of our resident nannies could not see his way to answer.

by the way here are vista specific news groups.

using the microsoft news server

msnews.microsoft.com (no logon required)

reset the list and scan for VISTA.

mikey, do you ever tire of making a fool of yourself? Sorry, I didn't mean
to make you exercise your brain - let me help you, the answer to that is
obvious.

The OP is using the web interface, so how is the microsoft news server going
to help him? FYI this afternoon the OP posted this same question to the
microsoft.public.windows.vista.file_management newsgroup using the web
interface.

Here is a link to the OPs post in the Vista newsgroup where he explains what
he is really asking about.
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...70e36b8df7d45e

I guess your sage advice didn't help him, eh? But since you're more
interested in making a fool of yourself, and less in understanding what the
OP is really asking, that is no surprise.

Lol, have a good one, my little yap dog.

Didn't you even read his two posts? It wasn't an issue about how to size
columns it's an issue about making these settings stick and to have it
customized in three different ways, i.e. Templates. On top of which I don't
think he will find anything to fix it in the long run, it's a bug in Vista -
the inconsistency in the view.

Mickey, if you are so hot on helping, at least read and comprehend what the
OP is asking. Your reply was useless and off the point in all respects.

On the other hand the fact that you misread and misunderstood his post, and
gave a reply that was useless - that happens to everyone from time to time.
It's no big deal and I don't fault you for it.

What is really pathetic, mickey, is your behavior. You have been called on
your behavior (and your posting in html) by so many people in multiple
newsgroups, and rightfully been labeled a troll, but you are so obsessed
with me you don't even see the ridiculous nature of what you do. When you
post in this fashion all you do is make a fool of yourself.

If I bother you so much why not kill file my posts? You don't because,
sadly, you truly need help. I hope you get it soon.

You can have the last word, I'm sure you'll want it. Have a good one.
