I set up my dns servers forward lookup zone to use the
wins server when it cannot find a host.
I right clicked forward lookup> properties >
WINS tab, and then clicked Use WINS forward lookup, and
clicked Do not replicate this record.

when I try to ping a record that I know exists in WINS and
not in DNS, I get a "Unknown host " message returned.

Any ideas? To I need to adjust the TTL?

are you sure you are using the right server where this is set - since you
decided not to replicate the record?
