DNS Communication Issues

We currently have an all Windows 2000 server network setup. It is configured
with one parent domain and 6 child domains.

From time to time we have an issue where we lose communication by name with
a couple of hour domain controllers in the branch offices. At these tiem we
can ping by FQDN but not NETBIOS name. At these times, we also lost the
child domains in question from Network Neighborhood. Once we reboot the
servers, it works fine but then a few days later, the same problem again. It
is always the same 2 servers that have this issue. There are no errors of
any kind in the event logs and after using DNS logging on the main DNS
servers I see no problems there either.

Pinging by IP address is never an issue.

A little more about my setup:

There are 3 servers being used as the Primary DNS servers. The other domain
controllers in the branch offices point to those 3 servers for their DNS.

I take it these servers are in sites on the same domain? They are not child
domains?

Which two servers? I take it they are in the same domain? Are they in the
same site?

Is DNS AD integrated? What are they using for alternate DNS?

How many DNS servers at "corporate"? How many DNS servers in the corporate
domain are in sites (branch offices)
What 2 servers in this mix are giving you trouble?

The Primary DNS servers PDC and Z01D are in the jas.com parent domain and are
Active Directory Integrated. The 2 domain controllers Z06C and Z06A1 that
are having this issue are in two seperate child domains called:
suffield.jas.com and mill.jas.com. They are each Secondary DNS servers and
handle DNS for each of their respective offices.

PDC is setup as primary DNS on those servers and Z01D is setup as secondary.
