Hi! I am looking for some help with my computer. I am running Windows XP,
IE6... last October I started using a local DSL and loved it. After 3 weeks,
the phone cord/electrical cord was accidently pulled out of the wall, turning
off the whole computer system. When I turned everything back on, I was
unable to get back online through IE. I received this message:

res://C:\windows\systems32\shdoclc.dll/dns.error

I called my local ISP and after an hour with tech support (running pings
(connection was there), flushes, caches etc etc) I am still unable to use IE
and my DSL.

Is this an easy fix? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I will
continue reading past posts for further help. I am using AOL diapup now and
it's sooo slow, really looking forward to getting back on with DSL.

It is possible that the file could have been corrupted or damaged by the
sudden interruption.

The SHODCLC.dll is used by Windows applications to add web, file, network
and document browsing capabilities. As such, it is an integral part of
windows. It should be in use when windows is running. Have you tried
starting in Safe Mode to replace this file? If that doesn't work, you can
always replace it through DOS.

This error can be caused by adware. Do the following:

Go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab
Uncheck the option for "Enable third-party browser extensions"
Click Apply
Click OK
Close the browser.
Restart the browser and attempt to print

If this resolves your problem, then you have some form of scumware on your
system, so you need to do the following to clean it from your system:

Be aware, there are many types of scumware that your antivirus and some
removal tools cannot detect or remove. Therefore, use the programs as
described in the instructions here. Some variants can continue to replicate
themselves each time your computer starts up if not properly removed.
