for a few months now i've been inundated with "server not found",
"connection has timed out" and "connection has been reset" errors.
in a desperate but futile attempt to correct this, i got a new
computer (that didn't have an internal modem), a USB modem and
switched ISPs (thinking it might've been on their end) but it's still
happening. i've switched off the Windows firewall and any anti-virus
stuff. still nothing. it's to the point where it's not like having a
connection at all.
one idea i'm working on is getting a filter for the phone jack then
maybe getting a wireless dialup router. all my drivers are up to date
and (i think) all the settings are right. i'm fairly new to dialup
(since the early 90s at least) and at a complete loss.
any ideas?
if you have any please send them to (E-Mail Removed) as i had to
spend all day loading this page as it is but at least i'm able to
connect to gmail's POP server.
pretty please? this has driven me insane to say the least.

I believe that with dialup, you are looking at a bad phone line.
The connections/wires from your phone to the outside of your home,
building, etc. are (at least here) your responsibility. From that point
on, it's generally the phone companies problem.
Usually, you have to tell the phone company that you have a problem,
such as "noise on the line". US Robotics used to have a number you could
call when you were using a USR modem, and USR would test your line with
the modem. Te closest thing I currently use to a data modem is a
multifunction printer with built in fax. In the data modem days, the
best my phone line would do was 36kb.
