Not sure if this is the right group to post this to but I'm seeing various
DMIO errors in my system log during my nightly WD full scan. They start a
few minutes after tha scan starts and end shortly before the scan ends. I've
changed the start time on the scan several time to see if it's unrelated but
the errors always occur during the scan. The errors in a repeating pattern.
I get 5 'error detected... during a paging operation' followed by 1 'read
error at block...' followed by 1 'Uncorrectable read error'. Recovery
Console chkdsk /r comes out clean and Samsung's disk util finds no errors.
Disks are mirrored 160GB Samsung SATAs on a ABIT Kv8Pro w/ AMD Athlon 64 3000
CPU. Memory is 1GB Corsair 3200XMS (2x512). XP SP2 with all updates. No
such errors during in-depth virus scanning or Retrospect full system backup.
I suspect a bad block but can't figure out why nothing detects it. Thanks in
advance for any ideas or suggestions.

This is a hardware error.

I had this error at home a while back... Not with Windows Defender but with
a disk defragmenter. In the end it meant that my disk was failing. Chkdsk is
fine, because there's no corruption yet, but beware: you should back up all
important data off the disk, because there is a good chance it will die soon.

My disk lasted for another 2 months before dying.

Hope this helps,
